Model of a large R/C sailing ketch

This was built from the Model ShipWays Plans of the Bounty launch and is a scale of 1/16 size. This was the boat that Fletcher Christian set Bligh and 19 others afloat in after the mutiny on April 28, 1789. The Launch was 28 Feet long, the beam was 6 foot 9 inches with a displacement of 2.5 tons. With the 19 plus Bligh it had a free board of 6 inches. Bligh sailed this over 4000 miles to Timor off the coast of Australia. This was the most extraordinary seamanship ever displayed. Lester constructed this model in a little over 3 months. The stitching on the sails is all hand done. The paint scheme is taken from the museum replica in London. In England this is a popular home built sail boat and there is even an actual group that has regattas to sail their full size replicas of the Launch. Built by L. Palifka.
